DetailsOne of our seniors, Danielle Passariello is a testament to the attitude that even in times of upheaval, the show must go on! On Saturday, May 2nd Danielle was supposed to perform in the Golden Knights Dance Showcase, but since she couldn’t she still found time to dance at home. On Saturday, May 9th also would have been Danielle’s graduation, instead she celebrated at home wearing her cap from high school and dressed to the nines.

DetailsThree alumni of the College Experience went with staff on the Social Distance Walking Club all the way to Washington Park located on Madison Avenue. We enjoyed the nicest and warmest day of the spring so far when the temperature reached a staggering 75 degrees! The circumstances of the world are not going to stop us from enjoying nature and seeing the famous tulips that have reached the climax of their bloom in Washington Park.
DetailsOn Monday, April 27, 2020 the students were treated to a special guest for their Employment Class led by Katie O’Hearn and Lori Ira. DetailsAn extension of the College Experience has been their CareerNext Program that is housed at SUNY Schenectady (and new this fall, SUNY Cobleskill). This has been geared toward students who have challenges, but are more academically inclined and have chosen to take on a more rigorous curriculum. There are still residential goals such as learning to cook, clean up after themselves, and shopping within a budget. But there is a greater emphasis on pushing the academic piece of the program.
DetailsSince 2005, students enrolled in The College Experience have been a welcomed part of a coeducational college community located in Albany, New York. We partner with Russell Sage College, and our students are welcomed members of both Russell Sage’s Albany and Troy campus communities.
Students are offered a practical core curriculum and a wide variety of electives.
Our dorms are beautifully remodeled city residences located just a few blocks from Russell Sage’s Albany campus. Students live together in groups of 3 – 9. Each student has his or her own bedroom and share common living areas. Seniors serve as mentors to freshmen and assist them in many meaningful ways.
What comes after graduation? Many College Experience students, in fact most, choose to remain in Albany. They maintain friendships with their fellow and former graduates, form romantic partnerships, and some get married.
Through our C2L Program, the College Experience support staff offers dedicated transition support and guidance, helping students in the year after graduation with apartment leases and job placements, and then literally forever after as members of the Living Resources community.
All College Experience students gain work experience through 3 semester-long internships at local businesses. An amazing variety of options are offered, both paid and unpaid, managed by a dedicated internship coordinator who helps facilitate matches between student interests and capabilities and meaningful career development opportunities. While not in class or at work, College Experience students can take advantage of a full campus and community calendar of events, plan and participate in their own outings or just hang out with their housemates, play games, share tips and build bonds of friendship that last a lifetime.
The small city of Albany, New York ’s capital, offers a perfect environment for young people to gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve true independence. The city has a great public bus system, which College Experience students are instructed how to take full advantage of, while shopping, banking, food, library, post office and entertainment options are all within easy walking distance of our residences.
