Neighborhood and Community

Students in The College Experience have opportunities to get involved in two communities beyond the program: The College of Saint Rose and the City of Albany.

All students take part in a weekly Community Involvement class to stay informed about campus and community clubs and events. As Saint Rose students, all College Experience students have the opportunity to take part in campus clubs and events, and work with staff members on how to get involved. Our Community Coordinator works with students to create clubs, host parties and plan events on their own as well.

Students develop independence in the areas of transportation, shopping, self-advocacy and community integration. Freshman students take part in a Travel Navigation course where they are supported and taught how to navigate the CDTA bus system in and around Albany independently. Students learn how to navigate the bus line to their internships in their second year. The College Experience program and The College of Saint Rose are located near multiple bus lines, giving students the ability to visit attractions throughout the Capital Region.
