In order to properly welcome the incoming freshmen students, our current seniors got to work on the Kindness Rocks Project on the date of Thursday, August 15, 2019 under the artistic instruction of Fern Pivar who runs our Entrepreneur class and advises the Phat Dog Treats business that is manned by the students.
It is always so special when alumni, current students, new participants, and staff unite for one explosive frenzy of celebration! Work is put on a back burner and everybody is able to cut-loose while dancing to our favorite music. This was truly the case during the Summer Exchange Semi-Formal on the evening of Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Elks Club only a short walk away from the student residences.
On the evening of Friday, August 9, 2019 the Alumni Activities Club took a trip to Washington Park for a free show of “Newsies”, offered by the Park Playhouse, which is a publicly and privately funded endeavor to bring free shows to the Capital Region.
Our full-time social worker, Allison Fuller created a brand new class with the assistance of her interns, Zhixin and Elaine. The class is called, “Character Strengths,” which rages against perceptions created by society that there is always going to be something wrong with us that has to be fixed.
The Alumni Activities Club of the College Experience recently traveled to Puzzles Cafe and Bakery in Schenectady, NY followed by the Rivers Casino down the street where they engaged in some light and “responsible” gambling. Rob Corso, Bill Fitzpatrick, Jessica Lewis, and Jose Galvez were transported by their staff on this trip planned by the Alumni Activities Club.
The 2019 Best Buddies Friendship Walk was held at Crossgates Mall recently. The Best Buddies Program has allowed our students to experience many aspects of campus life that would have been much harder to initiate on their own. We look forward to witnessing many more adventures on campus and throughout the Capital Region thanks to the support of others outside the program.
The College Experience is stationed in the heart of the Capital Region of New York State. On the date of Wednesday, July 24, 2019, Jose Galvez and his support staff treated the American Red Cross on Everett Road in Albany, NY, with two large pizza pies arrived from a local restaurant from Sweet Willy’s Pizzeria located on 85 Sand Creek Road.
Twelve high school students participated in the 2019 Summer Exchange at the College Experience. Students spent the week attending College Experience classes, sleeping in the College of Saint Rose dorms, and visiting a number of attractions located around the Albany area.
The goal of the Alumni Activities Club right now is to rule the summertime before it inevitably fades into lukewarm days and semi-chilly nights come this autumn. They took this action on the date of Sunday, July 7, 2019 when four alumni piled into a vehicle that was driven by staff to SplashDown Beach located in Fishkill, NY.
