College Experience graduate, Sara Lehnert and her alumnus peer, Zahin Momen (from the graduating classes of 2015 and 2019, respectively) have been happily enjoying their volunteer shifts at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York at their new site located at 6 Northway Lane in Latham, NY. Living Resources, Inc. and the College Experience is extremely grateful to the Food Bank for providing a generous supply of volunteer opportunities with multiple time slots available throughout every month.
The pandemic has brought so many people to their knees in despair! Those who were previously self-sufficient and able to maintain employment suddenly found themselves in circumstances that were completely beyond their control. A huge problem during the pandemic is food scarcity, which the enormous warehouses of this food bank are working to solve. Zahin and Sara team up with the other volunteers sorting frozen products that will be loaded onto the trucks to be distributed to those in need throughout the Capital Region. It is nice to know that good use is made out of the unsold items from our local supermarkets that are still fresh!
The web page for the Food Bank of Northeastern New York is: https://regionalfoodbank.netif anybody else wishes to make a contribution as a volunteer. We are especially thankful to Cathryn Jones who serves as the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the other volunteers who are showing our alumni the ropes. Included is a photograph of Zahin on his first day of volunteering on Thursday, January 25, 2021 taking a moment from his sorting duties to pose!
