There is nothing more enjoyable than rocking around the Christmas Tree in one’s own home! The College Experience houses are now decorated with Christmas tinsel and other forms of holiday joy prepared by our resourceful students.
The students within The College Experience are continuing their fun-filled schedule of holiday activities throughout this week and enjoyed a trip to the Crossgates Mall to screen the blockbuster animated film, “The Grinch” on the afternoon of Monday, December 17, 2018.
In an effort to take the learning experience out into the community as much as possible, our adjunct professor Michelle Brown arranged a field trip to the Casparus F. Pruyn House located in Latham, NY, a short time ago as our last field trip of the semester for the Local History class.
On the morning of Thursday, December 13, 2018 the students of the College Experience put their culinary talents to work by creating a substantial amount of chocolate chip cookies to enhance the Yuletide cheer at the celebration they had at the end of this week!
An annual tradition within the College Experience and Living Resources is a Holiday celebration at Mallozzi’s Banquet and Ballrooms located in Schenectady, NY.
Staff and students piled in the CDTA buses on the afternoon of December 13, for some Holiday Shopping at the massive Crossgates Mall, a short ride from campus. Students employed their budgeting skills and were assisted by staff when necessary on how much to buy.
David recently visited the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY on the date of Thursday, November 29, 2018 to deliver a lecture to the classes of Children with Disabilities and Understanding Autism.
The College Experience is pleased to welcome Allison Fuller to our team as a full-time social worker for the students. We are very excited that Allison has come aboard to work with our talented students on these challenges that come with being a college student.
One of our alumni, Jose visited the American Red Cross where he is in the process of applying to become a new volunteer. Casey Garvey who is one of the coordinators was kind enough to provide a tour of the premises, and a regular volunteer named, Margaret also showed him the ropes.
College Experience staff, Jennifer Richard and Jesse Saperstein, had the privilege of enjoying lunch with Heather Kuzmich at The Standard Restaurant. Heather is a former contestant on America’s Next Top Model with Asperger’s syndrome.
What comes after graduation? Many College Experience students, in fact most, choose to remain in Albany. They maintain friendships with their fellow and former graduates, form romantic partnerships, and some get married.
Through our C2L Program, the College Experience support staff offers dedicated transition support and guidance, helping students in the year after graduation with apartment leases and job placements, and then literally forever after as members of the Living Resources community.
Since 2005, students enrolled in The College Experience have been a welcomed part of a coeducational college community located in Albany, New York. We partner with Russell Sage College, and our students are welcomed members of both Russell Sage’s Albany and Troy campus communities.
Students are offered a practical core curriculum and a wide variety of electives.
Our dorms are beautifully remodeled city residences located just a few blocks from Russell Sage’s Albany campus. Students live together in groups of 3 – 9. Each student has his or her own bedroom and share common living areas. Seniors serve as mentors to freshmen and assist them in many meaningful ways.
