Sunday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m. the Washington Park Conservancy and the City of Albany invite residents to join the ninth annual Albany Lantern Parade in Washington Park. This free, family friendly event showcases community, creativity, and neighbors coming together from across the Capital Region to illuminate a chilly evening. At 4:30p, participants will start to gather at the Lake House and will begin to walk around the lake at 5:15p. We look forward to welcoming the Albany High School Marching Falcons and Jazz Ensemble back to the program this year! Refreshments will be shared in front of the Lake House after the walk.
“We’re walking with lanterns to share some light as the days become shorter,” said Sarah Read, the event’s organizer. “It’s beautiful to see this become a tradition, something people look forward to attending.”
Don’t have a lantern? The Albany Public Library is offering free “Take & Make” kits so participants can create lanterns at home using recycled bottles. Paper bags will be available to color on the day of the event as well.
Please note, for safety of one another and the environment, all lanterns will be hand-held, not released into the sky or lake. Battery-operated tealight candles will be available for use.

This event is co-sponsored by the City of Albany and the Washington Park Conservancy. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization formed in 1985 that helps the city restore, preserve, and maintain Albany’s historic Washington Park.
