New Driver's Permit Class College ExperienceAs a program, we are always looking for ways to enhance the independence of our amazing students! On that note, a brand new course that is being offered is Driver’s Permit Prep Class taught by Dominick Brown who serves as our Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).

Some of our students have the ambition to earn a driver’s license and we have a number of alumni who have achieved this milestone. Driver’s Permit Prep assesses the abilities of students who want to at least explore the option of becoming skilled drivers someday and preparing to take the test at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to receive a Learner’s Permit.

Dominick taught lessons the other week about how to properly make room for emergency vehicles without inadvertently causing another accident in the rush to get out of their way as indicated by the “Move Over Law.” The students also learned about how to legally make a “U-turn” and how to proceed as directed by a green arrow left-turn traffic signal while yielding to other traffic. And finally, they learned about parallel parking and watched a tutorial on how to do a “Three-Point Turn.”

We are looking forward to resuming this course as well as all the others once the students return to the College of Saint Rose, which is closed for the time-being as a precaution for the Coronavirus. We wish students wonderful health and fun with their families during their time away from the program!
