One of our Cooking Classes led by staff member, Edith “Plummy” Chase was recently hard at work learning how to make BLT (Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato) sandwiches in one of the house kitchens. New skills such as cooking and learning how to navigate internships may be intimidating for our students, although staff is always at hand to help everyone surmount the “fear factor.”
The Cooking Classes provide the proper equipment, recipes, and ingredients for the students to create edible confections to help with independent living after the two-year program comes to a close. Students often will make their own food for various Holiday Celebrations and even the graduation party at the end of the year.
We look forward to seeing and sampling more of what comes out of these culinary lessons throughout the year! In one of the photographs you will find Jordan proudly posing with her completed BLT sandwich!
