Compassion for our loyal and furry, four-legged friends was in-full force on the date of Saturday, December 22, 2018. Destiny, a 2018 alumnus of the College Experience, performed her volunteer work at Kitten Angels, located in University Plaza on Western Avenue.
Destiny comes to this location every weekend (sometimes both Saturday and Sunday) to assist with maintaining the kittens’ habitat. She is responsible for cleaning the cages and the litter box as well as making sure the energetic kittens are well-fed. In this photograph she had just blocked off the top portion of the cage for the kittens in order to clean the bottom.
Just an hour or so after Destiny performed her duties, a 2017 alumnus named Shannon also visited the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in hopes of making a difference as a future volunteer. She posed in front of one of the friendly canines, available for adoption at a reasonable fee.
Shannon also attended the emergency informational session at 1:00 pm in order to figure out how to assist with the hoarding situation in Troy, NY. At least one hundred animals were rescued from a home, and the resources of the organization are naturally taxed due to the dramatic influx of animals.
The news story had appealed to Shannon’s sense of compassion, which is why she and staff traveled to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, NY, to see what she could do to help. Shannon arrived early to reserve a seat, and there was time to look at all the adorable animals patiently waiting to be adopted.
Shannon has had extensive experience working with animals as an intern during her time in the College Experience at Just Cats Veterinary Clinic in Guilderland, NY.
We wish Destiny, Shannon, and the rest of the students/alumni success as they do everything possible to make a difference in the Capital Region!
