The Alumni Activities Club took an exciting trip to Boston on the date of Saturday, April 23rd, 2022. The day ended with five out of eight within our group purchasing tickets to the New England Aquarium before having an early dinner at Quincy Market. The aquarium took our imaginations into reality with regards to our vision of an undersea paradise. We saw exotic species of colorful saltwater fish, sharks, stingrays, and even penguins whose waddle disappeared as they swam gracefully in the water. We were even allowed to touch some of the species in a shallow tank! One of their fish happens to be a Blue Hippo Tang, which an alumnus pointed out is the same species as Dory from the Finding Nemo films produced by Pixar/Disney. This was as close as we have ever come to being “under-the-sea.” A bed of coral came to life before our eyes as its aquatic extensions swayed along with the movement of its undersea co-inhabitants.

Thanks to the services offered by the Yankee Trails Bus Company, we are able to take these types of trips when the location is much too far for staff to drive. The journey to Boston was so popular that we are actually offering it again on Saturday, May 7, 2022 when those who were not able to attend the aquarium now have a second chance. For our next trip, we will spend a lot more time in the aquarium to really let this fantasy sink in along with the interesting facts such as how half of the 350 shark species identified throughout the world are under four feet in length!
