A hack screenwriter develops a dangerous relationship with a faded film star determined to make a triumphant return in Director Billy Wilder’s (Some Like it Hot) film-noir masterpiece. With 11 Academy Award nominations and three wins, the incredible Gloria Swanson stars alongside William Holden and Erich von Stroheim, as well as Cecil B. DeMille, Hedda Hopper and Buster Keaton. This is the first of four films in a “Shades of Noir” collaboration between ICFS and Union College Film Studies. It will be introduced by Krisanna Scheiter, associate professor and chair of philosophy at Union College. Other titles in the series include “Odds Against Tomorrow” and “Nosferatu and Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.” As with other ICFS events, expect prizes, surprises, a convenient bar and comfy couches. Not rated. 110 minutes.
