The Albany History Fair is back again in Historic Cherry Hill! This year’s theme is “Lens on Albany: The Art & History of Photography in the Capital City.” Highlights include scholar and artist talks, themed tours, hands-on activities, vendors, and more.

The fair is free and open to the public.

The 24th Annual Albany History Fair Lens on Albany: The Art and History of Photography in the Capital City Historic Cherry Hill Sunday, May 7, 12-4 p.m. FREE Join us for the 24th Annual Albany History Fair, Lens on Albany! Experience the art and history of photography in the Capital City over an afternoon of special presentations, themed tours, collection highlights, and immersive activities. Special presentations: – Historian and collector, Stuart Lehman, discusses how the new art of photography changed how people viewed the world in the 19th century—and how the “stereoscope” brought the world right into your parlor in the earliest version of 3D. – Artist Clifford Oliver presents the vintage photo collection that has impacted his work as a photographer. – Lacey Wilson, Public Historian at the Albany Institute of History & Art, Camile Dobbs, Lead Educator at Youth FX, and student photographers discuss “Gordon Parks: My Camera is a Weapon,” a collaborative workshop that mentored students to create original works responding to the photographs of artist-activist Gordon Parks. – Albany City Historian Tony Opalka discusses photography as documentation—and highlights historic photographs of South End streetscapes that have disappeared. – “Minnie’s Picture”—a dramatic monologue in which Cherry Hill’s Minnie Knapp (Jocelyn Khoury) describes what it was like to have her tintype taken.
